People gather, rest, and interact.

Ootaguro Park is loved by many people, including local residents, as "Suginami's Guest House. I was in charge of the designated management of Daitaguro Park. We not only operated and managed the park facilities, but also held creative events and operated the park as a space for community-based exchanges throughout the year.

Project Summary

Ootaguro Park opened in 1981 after Suginami Ward transformed the former residence of musician Motoo Ootaguro into a Japanese garden. Inheriting the wishes of Mr. Ootaguro, the park is open to all local residents. The park is lined with ginkgo trees, a natural stream that takes advantage of the difference in elevation, and an Azumaya and pond that soothe visitors.
The memorial hall, which was also Mr. Otaguro's workroom, was built in 1933 and contains his favorite piano and phonograph made by Steinway.

Our Approach

When the park was converted to a park, the original pond was recreated, preserving the original form as much as possible.
The park is lined with ginkgo trees over 100 years old, as well as zelkova, red pine, and shinoki, among other giant trees.
Hakone Ueki was engaged in the management and operation of the garden as a stage for inheriting and practicing garden culture by utilizing traditional techniques and methods accumulated through plant management.

Point

Ootaguro Park, which receives more than 100,000 visitors annually, had various events such as lighting up the park during the fall foliage season.
The park was not only managed as a facility, but also included the operation of the park throughout the year.
