Japanese gardens are a creation of Japan’s unique culture, and they create infinite space without being confined to a physical scale or perspective. Particularly in private residences, I believe that the closed space of the garden makes its “healing” effect strongly felt.
The green of the trees and the color of the Ise gravel create a serene atmosphere in the sunshoan lanterns, water bowls, scenic stones, masonry, and en-dan.
This is the Japanese garden on the south side of the property. The gravel is painted with sand patterns. The lantern in the back is a yuzuki lantern.
From the granite stepping-stones, the steps lead up to the stepping-stones of Nen-dan and Nebukawa stone, leading to the garden on the west side of the building.
This is the tsuboniwa garden on the second floor. Maples are planted here as well. The gravel is Shirakawa gravel, and the hedge in the foreground is a Ryoanji hedge.
