A new landscape called "eco-museum" aims to connect local life and create a natural environment.

Located in the center of Futakotamagawa Rise, connecting Futakotamagawa Station to Futakotamagawa Park, the II-a district is an "eco-museum" landscape concept that creates value for the local environment. The 6,000-square-meter roof garden spreading out above the low-rise building incorporates not only the Tama River, but also the rich nature of the surrounding area, including the Musashino Plateau, Kokubunji Cliff Line, and Todoroki Valley, and actively reflects the varied topography to create the foundation for a biological network connecting ecosystems.

Project Summary

The roof garden, inspired by the river terraces of the Tama River and the Todoroki Valley, includes a "flower garden hill" and "staircase plaza," a "vegetable garden plaza," a food garden for community participation, a "Medaka pond" and "field plaza," a biotope for learning about the Tama River ecosystem, and a "blue sky deck" overlooking the Tama River.
Local nature is utilized in the materials and plantings in each part of the building to create a landscape unique to Futakotamagawa, where people can feel a connection with the local community.

Our Approach

The project includes the cultivation of the Kawaranogiku, a symbolic flower of the endangered Tama River, as well as the preservation of gravel from the construction work and its use as pavement and earth retaining materials. The biotope "Medaka no Ike" was planned based on the waterside environment, including wet plant communities found in Todoroki Valley. Driftwood collected from the banks of the Tama River was also incorporated into the design.

Creating an enriched environment where people can experience nature close at hand, while realizing biodiversity. Incorporating the irreplaceable natural environment into the city block and passing it on to the future. Futakotamagawa Rise received AAA, the highest rank in the JHEP Habitat Evaluation and Certification System, which evaluates projects that enhance biodiversity.
