In today's society, biotopes are needed as places to look at the relationship between people and nature and to consider life and the environment. It also reminds us that the environment that the biotope aims to create is important to protect life for generations to come.
A biotope is landscaping in the broadest sense. Because a biotope is an artificially created environment, its construction requires a higher level of skill and ability than the construction of an ordinary garden, including consistency with the surrounding environment, management, and maintenance.
Regional native species are the perfected products that have been optimized for the region through repeated trial and error over tens of thousands of years, and the same goes for their combinations. Environmental regeneration greening system Refugia provides high-quality greening for the restoration of original landscapes, the environment, and biodiversity conservation by learning from nature’s mechanisms. Vegetation units ranging from woody plants to herbaceous plants are created based on the potential natural vegetation of the planned site, original vegetation, and vegetation of the surrounding area. Natural regeneration is possible by specifying the planning site and area.
We will build a new landscape called an “ecomuseum” that aims to connect local life and create a natural environment.
We collect seeds from surrounding natural areas, recreate the local vegetation, and provide an extracurricular class in which we discuss the characteristics of plants and the places where they are likely to grow, in order to give students a closer feel of the biotope.
We also perform seed collection work, such as when planting local seeds for greening. We conduct everything from considering the collection site to obtaining permission and collecting the seeds, and then deliver seeds with traceability. We also hold seed collecting events for environmental education.
Biotope means the environment in which living things live. In Japan, it seems that there are many examples of rice fields, but there are many other types such as artificial beaches and Satoyama. Biotopes are expected to be effective in the following uses:
An environment close to the natural environment brings psychological stability and is expected to have a positive impact on medical treatment.
The ecosystem itself can be protected. It can also be used for recreation.
You can learn about ecosystems, food chains, and the structure of the natural environment, and also provide hands-on education. It also gives us an opportunity to think about the mind that nurtures life itself and the environment itself.
Construction example of an apartment complex with a rooftop vegetable garden/rooftop garden
From a medical perspective, there are horticultural therapy and forest therapy, but with the concept of “a garden that touches the five senses and soothes the soul,” we have created a Japanese garden and a biotope on the roof, which are being utilized in medical settings.
Construction example of the artificial beach “Janome Beach” at “Aquamarine Fukushima”
Artificial beaches create a comprehensive environment from land to sea.
Clams and crabs are released on the artificial beach, and it also serves as an experiential cultural and educational facility.
